The car is parked at the parish hall in Terfens. From there you walk along the path of reflection to the pilgrimage chapel Maria Larch.

On the way to the Maria Larch pilgrimage chapel, you become increasingly immersed in the tranquillity of the Larchtal valley. The climb just before Gnadenwald requires a little effort, but at the top, the sunny plateau opens up – a place that immediately gives you a feeling of lightness.

Directions:Route:
  • Pass the Maria Larch pilgrimage chapel and turn right into the Larchtal valley to Gnadenwald, keeping to the right throughout
  • Shortly before Gnadenwald, there is a fairly steep climb up to the sunny plateau of Gnadenwald.
  • Continue on the right-hand side for approx. 300 m towards Terfens.
  • Then turn left onto the recreational trail to Umlberg
  • At Umlberg, follow the road for a short distance (approx. 1 km) towards the valley, passing old farmhouses
  • At the end of the hamlet of Umlberg, take the left turn onto the toboggan run and hike back to the starting point at the village square in Terfens

    • Snowshoe equipment (snowshoes & telescopic poles with large snow baskets)
    • Waterproof, functional winter clothing
    • Avalanche transceiver equipment
    • Map, GPS or tour app
    • Sun protection
    • Tip from the author:Snowshoe hikes in open terrain should always be undertaken by inexperienced individuals with a mountain guide or hiking guide.
