to the region
The silver region Karwendel lies between the Tuxer Alps and the Karwendelgebirge. The region stretches from the Bavarian border over the Karwendel peaks to the Tux Alps. In the middle is the Inn Valley. The district capital Schwaz, today a small historical treasure, once counted among the largest cities in Austria, when silver mining reached its peak in the Middle Ages. The silver region extends over two political districts. 10 places belong to the district Schwaz, Kolsass and Kolsassberg belong to the district Innsbruck Land. The Risstal in the Karwendel can only be reached by car via an 80 km long path that leads around the Karwendel mountain range.
