Two wind orchestras, over 85 musicians and new works transform Schwaz into a field of sound that invites you to walk through and listen along. Klangku

  • Thomas Meadowcroft March Static (2018), ÖEA

Two wind orchestras, one city: Schwaz plays and the audience walks freely in the middle of it all. The two wind orchestras of the city of Schwaz, the Knappenmusik and the Stadtmusik, are joining forces for a large-scale project. More than 85 musicians perform in the magnificent rooms of the Maria Himmelfahrt parish church and the Schwaz town park. Peter Jakobers little beauty is the prelude. Here, countless individual tempi overlap to create a polyphonic tapestry of sound. Anyone strolling between the musicians will hear differently: personal listening experiences are created that change with every step and every new perspective. The path leads from the open to the parish church, where Thomas Meadowcroft's March Static takes over the space. Under the direction of the Australian ensemble Speak Percussion, slowly moving wind groups encircle the audience in a constantly changing sound field that acoustically re-measures the church space.
