In June/July 2026, the erbario gallery in Schwaz is presenting letterpress/woodblock printing - and its facets. The exhibition shows works by the renowned Tyrolean artist Manfred Egger - and also some unexpected facets of the genre.

Manfred Egger, an artist from Hall who can now look back on a long and successful international career, is showing recent works in his very own, specific woodblock printing technique.

Multi-layered forms alternate between abstraction and realistic depictions based on natural structures. In his multi-layered working method, he repeatedly succeeds in dissolving the boundaries between the individual layers, irritating the viewer's perspective. Depending on the focus, the viewer perceives forms differently in their spatial position in relation to one another. Foreground and background become blurred, the foreground blurs with the background. What do we really see? Where is our perception deceiving us? What is deception and what is real? By developing his formal ideas into series (of unique prints) that are composed of the same plates and print templates, Manfred Egger makes us aware of the relativity of perception, of being. Every thing has many sides. Whatever we recognize can also be perceived from a completely different perspective. Nothing is one-dimensional and can be recognized or seen through at a glance. This gives Manfred Egger's works additional depth by reflecting on the themes of appearance and reality, façade and truth. In times of fake news and deep fake, this is unfortunately highly topical!

Manfred Egger, a member of Xylon Austria and KIWA (Kyoto Int. Woodcut Association), exhibits regularly in Tyrol and Austria (solo and group exhibitions) and can look back on over 250 participations in international graphics competitions and events. He has received international awards more than 25 times.
