Vernissage: The Lord God Carver from Hall - Franz Viertl 1910-1066

Vernissage for the special exhibition in the Rablhaus - duration until 27.9.2026

The exhibition shows the Hall sculptor Franz Viertl from a perspective that closely links his work and life. His works are understood as an expression of his personal and historical experiences.

Workbench, tools and materials provide an insight into his everyday life and make it clear how closely craftsmanship, earning a living and faith were linked. The works are supplemented by personal documents such as field post letters, correspondence, quotes and memories from family and friends.

A particular focus is placed on the war period and the years that followed, which had a lasting impact on Viertel's work.

From nativity figures to sacred and profane sculptures to haunting depictions of the suffering Christ, a concentrated picture of an artist whose work is inextricably linked to the world in which he lived emerges.
