Spring concert of the Schwaz Municipal Orchestra
The concert by the Schwaz Municipal Orchestra with soloist Paul Pranter presents masterpieces of Viennese classical music and more recent works
The concert by the Schwaz Municipal Orchestra on Friday, May 29 in St. Barbara's Church (start: 8 p.m.) promises the familiar and the unknown, the exciting and the relaxing, the highly emotional and the deeply serene. Two masterpieces of Viennese classical music will be juxtaposed with two works from the more recent past.
Benjamin Britten, England's most important composer of the 20th century, died 50 years ago. The Courtly Dances from Gloriana, a delightful sequence of Renaissance dances in a modern guise, are intended to commemorate him. Arvo Pärt's Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten is also dedicated to him. The Latvian composer, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, sings a deeply moving farewell to a person and artist whom he would have liked to have met in person.
With Mozart's fabulous Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, probably the most beautiful work composed for his instrument, Paul Pranter bids farewell to his place of work, which he helped to shape as a teacher and musician for 40 years. Haydn's Symphony No. 100, known as the Military Symphony, concludes the concert evening as a haunting memorial in politically turbulent times.
