The band Rotwelsch bases its music on the box office hits of the late 19th and early 20th century and brings them into the here and now
Philipp Maria Rosenberg - piano
Florian Kolb - bass
Lucas Johnson - drums
"He respected the audience and wanted to offer them good music that they could listen to and love, music that was not primitive but true." This description, directed at the now largely forgotten operetta composer Joseph Beer, also applies to the core of Rotwelsch's music. The ensemble brings the "true" music of Beer and other operetta composers into the present by making it the basis for their own work as a kind of "Great European Songbook".
On the basis of this versatile historical material, new pieces are created in which direct musical expression takes center stage. The trio transfers the wonderful melodic lines into the instrumental and the piano hammers begin to sing.
Over the sound fields, there is room for improvisation, sometimes thematically unbound, sometimes taking up melodic fragments and sometimes breaking the tonality, subtly expanding it into the noisy. The result is a consistent complexity, a panopticon of musical expression.
