"The Lord God Carver from Hall" - Franz Viertl (1910-1966)

The Hall artist Franz Viertl (1910-1966) and his work stand in the shadow of the great Tyrolean sculptor Josef Bachlechner the Elder. In his early works, Viertl leaned heavily on the works of the master, whom he greatly admired. It was only over the years that he developed his own style, whereby his depictions of the Corpus Christi on the cross are particularly noteworthy. War, difficult professional beginnings, a long illness and the artist's early death merge here in the expression of the pictures of the Man of Sorrows. The entirety of Franz Viertl's works will be presented for the first time and supported by the publication of a separate publication to accompany the exhibition.
