Exhibition: BERG OHNE HORIZONT Michael Höpfner
Art exhibition at Kunstraum Schwaz until 08.08.2026: BERG OHNE HORIZONT by Michael Höpfner
"My artistic work always begins with a walk, which I see as a search. I try to free myself from rules and distractions by walking; by this I mean consumption, daily routines, social rules, etc.; I literally try to circumvent these. In my artistic work, writing, drawing and photography form a unity that I constantly rework and also contradict."
Since the 2000s, the Lower Austrian artist Michael Höpfner (1972) has regularly undertaken long-distance hikes to the most remote areas of Eastern Europe, China and Asia. He documents his hikes with b/w photographs from his Hasselblad camera and diary notes, as well as drawings, which are shown in the exhibition. In addition to works by Michael Höpfner, items from the collection of the Alpenverein Museum in Innsbruck selected by the artist will also be on display, which also focus on walking in vast landscapes, such as Hermann Buhl's last expedition diary, which ends seven days before his tragic crash on Chogolisa with the entry on 20.06.1957, or excerpts from Peter Aufschnaiter's expedition photo album with views from Tibet, as well as other artifacts. The exhibition will be significantly expanded with the historical loans.
The exhibitions are free to visit.
