01.06.2026
18:30 O'Clock

Talk and exhibition opening

A discussion about mourning, remembrance and the handling of human remains in museums. What does it mean when mortal remains are stored far away from their original context? How can mourning take place if there is no place for it? And how does the view change when the object becomes a subject again?

Speakers: Konrad Kuhn (European Ethnology, University of Innsbruck), Robin Menges (Clinical & Health Psychologist) and Johannes Schrottenbaum (Funeral Director Schwaz) The audience is cordially invited to join in the discussion.

In the Search for Traces series, the Museum der Völker sheds light on the origin and history of selected objects. The exhibition "Case 3: Human Remains" is dedicated to the ethnic and emotional issues surrounding human remains in the collection of the Museum der Völker.
