"Greetings from Grado" by Franz Xaver Kroetz
The smell of suntan lotion, the oppressive heat in the hotel room and the distant sound of the Adriatic Sea. Grado in the 80s. A concrete paradise and the only moment for the working-class couple to be themselves for once.
However, melancholy sparkles behind the mirrored sunglasses. Kroetz writes about what hurts: the speechlessness at the buffet, the hard-won dreams and the bitter knowledge that freedom ends after 14 days at the check-out.
No one understands the lonely struggles of the little people like Kroetz. He gives longing a face that is so honest and unvarnished that it almost hurts. An evening full of nostalgia that asks us: what remains of our dreams when the sun goes down?
Director Markus Plattner takes us on a journey through time that gets under our skin. Sensitive, profound and mercilessly precise, he dissects the big dream of small happiness.
The actors are: Franz Osl and Gaby Zeindl
