The Unsinnige Donnerstag is considered the highest holiday of the fools and is the undisputed highlight of the Schwaz carnival season. Also revived in 1979, the carnival in the town center has developed into one of the largest events of its kind in Tyrol.

From the early hours of the morning, the town square, pedestrian zone and Maximilianplatz transform the town center into a large carnival stage. The masked parade of the Schwaz kindergartens, the occupation of the town hall with the handing over of the keys to the jester mayor, the jester disco and the mask award ceremony are fixed events. Traditionally, the entry and performance of the Schwaz customs group is a special highlight.

The free carnival gives this day its very own dynamic and its unmistakable flair - a festival for all generations.
