Austroschwarz
In a unique combination of essay and playful animation, he tells of being black in Austria
The documentary AUSTROSCHWARZ is about the Black artist and cultural worker Mwita Mataro. Born in Salzburg, he takes us into the reality of his life for 90 minutes and lets us participate in the confrontation with his Black skin color. Stylistically, the film breaks with the conventional narrative of the documentary, instead adopting an empathetic perspective with a combination of road movie, essayistic film and cartoon. AUSTROSCHWARZ is an intimate portrait, a film about personal and national identity and about a diverse Austria. A film about empowerment, not racism.
