Literaturforum Schwaz: Reading with Doris Knecht
Author Doris Knecht reads from her new novel 'Ja, nein, vielleicht' (Hanser Berlin 2025)
For the first time in many years, she feels free again: the children have moved out and her life between the big city and the countryside is becoming more peaceful. But then her apartment is occupied by her sister, a tooth threatens to fall out and she is confronted with her own finiteness. While the health dilemma escalates into a minor existential crisis, she meets a man from the past again: Friedrich. An encounter that confronts her with a question she no longer wanted to deal with: Is she ready to share her good life, to risk her inner contentment, again?
A modern novel about life as a woman, which questions the eternal primacy of romantic love in an unabashed, witty, life-smart way.
Doris Knecht, *1966 in Rankweil, is a columnist (including for Falter and Vorarlberger Nach- richten) and writer. Her novel Gruber geht (2011) was nominated for the German Buch Prize and was made into a movie. Doris Knecht lives in Vienna and the Waldviertel region.
