KLANGSPUREN SCHWAZ, TRANSITIONS
Between precision and deviation: Bernhard Breuer's numerous music projects can be mapped onto this continuum. The precision of rhythmic structures, the mechanical pulse of techno on the one hand, the breaking of rules and the freedom to play on the other.
Born in Upper Austria, he has traveled the widest circles with his band Elektro Guzzi, all the way to the big international festival stages. In his new composition Transitions, which lasts around an hour, Bernhard Breuer continues along this path. Four drum sets enter into a dialog with electronics, four musicians (Lukas König, Herbert Pirker, Niki Dopl and Breuer himself) remeasure time. A simple pattern shifts, one thinks of Steve Reich, but in a pithier version. Playing as a soloist does not interest the Viennese-by-choice Bernhard Breuer as much as collaboration. In human-musical interaction, he can leave the securely defined terrain and construct new musical spaces that are precisely constructed and at the same time expansive and free.
