"It's a tough business, standing on a busy street from Monday to Sunday, exposed to the noise, the sun, the heat and the dust from morning to afternoon. But it's better to work independently than for someone else," Loubabatou Sana, palm root seller

What does informal work mean? How much is child rearing worth? Who determines the wage for which work? Why do women earn less than men? Is it better to be self-employed or employed?

Considerations on working conditions, leisure time, fair pay, etc. are universally valid and are not only defined in the 8th SDG under Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Based on 10 interviews recently conducted in Ouagadougou with people who earn their living by providing services, manufacturing, repairing and selling goods directly on the streets, in squares or on the road, the exhibition explores issues relating to working conditions, precarity and creative self-empowerment. Beyond clichés, the result is an examination of cultural and economic conditions, but above all of one's own attitude to work. Interactive stations invite visitors to express their own thoughts, while a supporting program will deal with the 8th SDG.

The scenography of the exhibition will once again be developed in a course with students in line with the long-standing successful cooperation between the Institute of Design, Faculty of Architecture, University of Innsbruck and the MdV.
