REINHOLD MESSNER
Multivision lecture "Life at the limit"
Reinhold Messner is one of the greatest and most famous adventurers of our time and is considered a gifted storyteller. In his live show, the mountaineering legend provides deep insights into his unique life at the limit.
The world was no bigger than our valley. People went to the mountain pastures to fetch hay. That was as far as you went. Reinhold Messner went further than the others right from the start, breaking taboos. He was always looking for his limits: From his first ascent of a 3,000-metre peak as a five-year-old to crossing the Gobi Desert at the age of 60. He left the narrow valley of his South Tyrolean childhood behind him early on, was the first to conquer Mount Everest without an oxygen mask, climbed all fourteen eight-thousanders and conquered the Seven Summits. He later crossed the world's largest ice and sand deserts on foot and crossed Greenland's ice. I'm going to hell voluntarily, he said succinctly. No one has gone to his limit as often as he did. His biography is probably unique.
But what inspires this successful man? Where does he draw the strength and imagination to constantly reinvent himself? Reinhold Messner has a fascinating presence when he talks about quiet, sometimes spectacular, often perilous adventures on the world's highest mountains. He presents photos and film sequences of his expeditions, talks about his homeland, his family, about friendship and egoism, about bourgeois morals and about his instinct to always do the right thing. His passion for constantly crossing physical, mental and human boundaries is reflected in the title of his live show Life at the Limit.
