A voyage of discovery of mining in Schwaz

You are here in the Falkenstein mining district, where from 1400 to 1957, steel ores were mined in more than 250 mine tunnels up to an altitude of 1,600 m and 200 m below the Inn valley floor. Copper (Cu) and silver (Ag) were extracted from these ores as valuable metals. The total length of the tunnels in this mining district was around 500 km.

With the newly implemented and staged Schwazer Knappensteig trail, you now have the unique opportunity to visit and experience the historic mining sites at their original locations. Hike into the past and gain an insight into the incredible achievements that were created here by human hands.
