Triumphal procession of Emperor Maximilian I

Emperor Maximilian I (1459-1519) pretended to be the last knight, even though he was already fighting with the modern military force of artillery and infantry. He loved St. George, tournaments and used art as a special means of propaganda. In order to put his person in the picture, he commissioned the most famous artists around 1500 for fantastic genealogies, the history of his deeds, world maps and city maps, but also many portraits. From the once 100 meter long representation of the triumphal procession of the emperor 12 meaningful single images are shown. Exhibition duration: June 12 - June 30, 2019
