The Franciscan monastery in Schwaz was founded in 1507 on the initiative of Emperor Maximilian I. The Gothic monastery church is one of the largest and most beautiful Gothic churches in Tyrol. The cloister, with its 16th-century frescoes, is particularly worth seeing.
