St. Georgenberg Monastery
Churches & Monasteries

A special place of pilgrimage in the Karwendel Silver Region is St. Georgenberg in Stallental.

The pilgrimage church St. Georgenberg welcomes its pilgrims on a rock cone about 100 metres high. Rathold von Aibling, who founded St. Georgenberg in the first half of the 10th century, is said to have lived in a cave at that time. Originally, St. Georgenberg was home to the Benedictine monastery, which is now located in Fiecht Abbey. However, after several major fires and the appearance of the plague, it was decided to relocate the monastery to the valley, which also happened after two years of construction in 1708. Nowadays there are two different ways to visit the pilgrimage church St. Georgenberg: through the wild and romantic Wolfsklamm from Stans or along the pilgrimage path that begins in Fiecht.

Until 1705 the present pilgrimage church was the abbey church and the 15th century Lindenkirche opposite on a slope served as pilgrimage church.

Every 13th of the month of May to October, the night pilgrimage (start at parking lot Weng at 19:00 clock) takes place. During night pilgrimage, the pilgrimage church as well as the inn is also open in the evening..
